First the CD drive. It seems relatively easy since CD drives come as 5.25" devices, whereas the original floppy drive of the 1541 is also 5.25". True but there is a little "but". The mounting brackets of the floppy are narrower than the full width of the drive, which is the bracket dimension of today's constructions. First thing to do then, was to move the original brackets out of the way for the modern drive. They had to be flattened out.
